Big Cycling Weekend: Bikes vs Cars Premiere, Encino Velodrome Swap Meet & Cyclocross!

I don’t normally do a weekend events column because it’s rare to be flooded with so many awesome things over a three day span. But hey Mr. Weekend, you did it now, so let’s spread the word!

First, the documentary Bikes vs Cars is landing in theaters! If you haven’t caught one of the screenings around town, this is your chance to finally kick up your heals and enjoy a first rate movie experience at the NoHo7 theaters.

Bikes vs Cars features LA of course

The film will be doing a week’s run there(Friday – Thursday), so hurry lest you miss it all.

To top it off, there are a couple of feeders rides leading to tonight’s showings from Golden Saddle and Pure Fix. In other words, you may want to get tickets in advance.

Next, the Encino Velodrome Swap Meet returns Saturday with goods exchanges in the morning and racing in the afternoon.

The Swap Meet only comes quarterly or every three months(I can’t do the math). It’s a great opportunity to find some deals, make new friends and build a little more community.

It starts at 8am, so get there early to get the best deals or try haggling near when it closes at noon.

Last, Cyclocross returns to Griffith Park this Saturday and Sunday. This is the one cross event I look forward to each year, just as I enjoy a little piece of cycling taking place right next to the Greek Theater.

I already signed up for a Sunday Race, so I’m pot committed even though I have no idea what I’m doing again. That’s okay, because you’ll see people piece together all sorts of bikes to make it happen.

Cyclocross is one of the best spectator sports to witness, so come on out and join the fun.
