This past Sunday, I rode the Nichols ride, but I didn’t know it would be a day of milestones.
First of all, I didn’t realize that this was the first Nichols Ride I finished this year.
I slid out around “unnecessarily overwatered” crash corner in January and because of other mechanicals, I’ve only been back a couple of times to shoot pics.
This time, I came to ride.
And probably race too.
It was good to see Phil Gaimon at the start in his post-Cancellara world except for the fact that he’d be putting the hurt on.
Things lit up as we crossed at Hollywood Blvd. and it turns out I had a PR on one of my Strava starred segment “Nichols to Mulholland” averaging 15.2 mph on the climb.
Unfortunately, I was a little lacking on the second half where I’m normally stronger.
It could be the backup wheel I am riding or the fact I love beer so much, but I was a bit disappointed with things.
Still, it’s a great ride and I’m sure I’ll be back for more soon.
