Firefly Ball Becoming Cycling’s Biggest Gala

The rise of cycling in Los Angeles is self evident and you need to look no further than LACBC’s Firefly Ball to point out why. This year, the gala will be honoring former Mayor Richard Riordan, councilmen Joe Buscaino and Mitch Englander, and up and coming star Tafari Bayne for their contributions.

Do you want more star power? How about rookie of the year Matty Grossman? I just hope he doesn’t read me the riot act…

I was fortunate enough to attend the inaugural ball last year and it was so stately, that I didn’t realize until recently that it was the first.

It’s a night to mingle among the movers and shakers of the cycling world and also to celebrate what we have done and where we are going.

This is also an opportunity to show the world we are not permanently spandexed clad humanoids that do look good in formal attire.

Probably the weirdest thing about the ball is taking a minute to recognize everyone because it’s the first time you might have seen that person without a helmet on.

That’s okay. It’s an affliction every cyclist suffers from.

In addition, there will be a raffle and silent auction with a number of prizes every cyclist will drool over.

Come join the Firefly Ball on Thursday, October 29th by RSVPing on the NationBuilder site or contacting Kelly Martin at: kelly@la-bike.org.
