Help CiclaValley Build and Donate a Bike

Let me briefly diverge to write about the most important movie of our generation: “Frozen”

I never was seeking out knowledge of this Disney animated musical on my own, but if you’re a parent of a young daughter, those songs have been holding you hostage.

“Let it Go” has neurologically damaged me enough on its own, but movies have soundtracks, meaning there are multiple other options for your progeny to torture you.

A few weeks ago, I was on a ride with the rationally, reasonable Insane Bike Posse paired up with Mike as we climbed Cahuenga.

He recently switched out his groupset from SRAM to Shimano and has been waiting for someone to take his older parts off his hands just to pass on.

I’m not really in need of parts and my bikes are all Shimano, so I didn’t really have much use for them.

Then it happened.

Yes. I do.

Okay. Similar to snowmen, I don’t really know how to build bikes, but what if I was able to scrape enough parts to put one together?

Would it be able to sing and dance like Olaf?

Probably not, especially from a mental psyche point of view.

To be honest, me and my marriage don’t need another bike, but what if I could put something decent together to give away to a youngster just getting into road racing?

That would be a pretty awesome gift this holiday season.

It’s not like I’m aiming to get something like a Pinarello Dogma, but I’d sure like to put something respectable together.

Here’s where I need you: parts.

I’m sure enough people out there have spare parts that we can actually pull this off.

Right now I’ve got a complete groupset meaning I need:

  • Frame
  • Fork
  • Wheels
  • Tires
  • Seat
  • Seat Post
  • Handlebars
  • Stem
  • Wires

In other words, a lot.

Yeah, I’m probably going to ask for some help putting this together as well, but I’m not going to put the cart before the horse.

Me need stuff first!

If you have any spare parts you can donate or trade, please contact me at: ciclavalley@gmail.com

You can still help though if you’re not generously overstocked at home.

Donations are gladly accepted at any amount (starting at $.01) to help put this bike together.

If you donate $25 or more (paypal is ciclavalley@gmail.com too), I’ll mail your U.S. address this limited edition CiclaValley shirt:

I pretty much have only mediums, large and extra larges, so email me first so I can check inventory at my warehouse (drawer).

I imagine that I’ll never get the right or complete match of components to piece this thing whole on its own, so I’ll be posting some more of my parts to sell and trade to get this done as we near the end and don’t think backroom deals are out of the question.

Think about the completed product and how you could point to your family, friends and people that need influencing that you help build that.

It’s not that the holidays need more cheer, but imagine how much a kid receiving their first legit bike could mean.
